Stone Dip Pocket Park
Project Background:
The Stone Dip Pocket Park is being developed to address the issue of localized flooding and to create green spaces for community members in the Town of Superior, AZ. The project will use stormwater as a resource to sustain native desert-adapted plants, reduce local flooding, and create a functional and attractive community space.
It will also include educational elements, like workshops and signage. The Stone Dip Pocket Park is considered a Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) project. GSI projects direct stormwater from streets, parking lots, and rooftops into landscaped areas where it is collected to support vegetation.
The benefits of GSI are:
- Decreases dust in the air
- Reduces flooding
- Provides sustainable water source for plants
- Increases soil moisture
- Decreases water on streets
- Provides resources for pollinators
- Reduces neighborhood temperatures

Stone Dip Park Goals
This project fits into the Town’s overall Stormwater Management Plan and is the second of its kind. Check out the Coleman Alley Pocket Park webpage to learn more about other green infrastructure projects in the area.
To help this project be as successful as possible, the Stone Dip Advisory Committee was formed. The committee includes members from the Town of Superior, Rebuild Superior, the University of Arizona, Eighty-Eight Acres LLC, Resolution Copper, Arizona Water Company, the Boyce Thompson Arboretum, and other local community advocates. The group meets monthly to collaborate and ensure the project stays on track.
The goals of this project are:
- Develop Stone Dip lot to create public green space
- Demonstrate local implementation of Green Infrastructure
- Encourage similar practices in the region
